Recreation and Park District
Hot Topics: Restoration, budget and ice cream
Tuesday, 7/20, is the next monthly meeting of the Camp Meeker Recreation and Park District. The agenda is posted at the meeting site, next door to the Fire Station; past agendas are also available as pdfs on their website. The current agenda is not as substantive as last month’s, but there is still more meat than gristle on that bone.
Camp Meeker has been actively creating infrastructure over the last decade and a lot of Federal money has flowed down through Dutch Bill Creek and upstream from the Russian River. With Rec and Park the only elected public body in sight, they always seem to hold the reins on these projects and usually have a lot of things to discuss. (Not to mention the tireless grant writing efforts by former Board Chair Gary Helfrich.)
An update on the restoration of Dutch Bill Creek, just beginning Phase II, is again on the agenda this month. We will not see an extensive presentation like that given last month by the contractor, Prunuske Chatham, but merely a short report from the Director. Director Fawcett will also report on the ongoing development of Camp Meeker Commons, a grouping of Rec & Park assets (including Anderson Hall) that is available for public use.
Speaking of money, the budget shortfall is once again on the agenda, with the Board looking very likely to approve the rate hikes discussed last month. No other budget balancing options are on the agenda and June marked the end of their fiscal year. The possibility of hiring a grant writer, however, is on the agenda.
The coffers must not empty, however, because the Local History Project is asking for $200 to hold an end of season ice cream social and the Rec & Park website may get an update. I’m in favor of both those propositions! I’ll let you know how they vote.
If you want to get an item before the Camp Meeker Recreation and Parks Board, it must be submitted in writing ten days before the monthly meeting, which are regularly held on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 pm. Submit your agenda items to: Camp Meeker Recreation and Park District, Post Office Box 461, Camp Meeker, CA 95419 or email admin@campmeeker.org.
